An Austin man is dead, another swimmer is missing and a third was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after separate incidents on Central Texas waterways on the July 4 holiday.
Two of the incidents occurred in Lake Travis, which local officials had warned was at higher-than-normal risk for potential drownings due to its lower water level caused by drought conditions.
The confirmed drowning happened on the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels, where officials identified the victim as Pablo Daniel Calzada Rodriguez, 27, of Austin.
At the scene, first responders attempted life-saving measures on Rodriguez, who had been pulled from the water after going under for an undetermined amount of time. He was transported to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital New Braunfels where he was pronounced dead, according to the New Braunfels Police Department.
